Paneer
Paneer is a type of cheese mainly used in South Asian cuisine. Adding lemon juice/vinegar to whole milk will cause the solids to separate from the water. The cheese is finally made from these solid particles and are cut into blocks. The name derives from the Persian word Panir. This type of cheese is also especially popular with vegetarians. In fact, it can easily be used as a meat substitute, basically like tofu. This makes this type of cheese an ideal alternative to meat or fish.

Where can you buy paneer?
You can buy these cheese cubes in the Netherlands mainly in Surinamese, Chinese and Turkish tokos/supermarkets. Since paneer belongs to the cheese category, you can often find it in the refrigerated section of the respective toko or supermarket.

Paneer has a fairly light flavor. This light flavor makes it easy to combine with a lot of different ingredients. This is also why it is incorporated into a lot of Indian dishes.
Nutritional value
It is a product largely composed of milk because of this it contains a lot of protein, little fat and carbohydrates.
